Built using 20x10 flat bar steel rail,  these points are the culmination of many years experience and knowledge in miniature railway operation and manufacture. Compatible with our larger Britannia Track range, these points use our own design of chairs and frogs screwed into MRW 60 x 30mm plastic wood and are built here at MRW to our design. The rail has been precisely machined to give a correct gauge and gauge widened where applicable throughout the point blades and crossing (frog).

The blades are interchangeable from one point to another; hence if one is damaged through misuse they can be replaced/renewed. The blades have been precisely machined in house here at MRW to give the best contact area between blade and stock rail as possible whilst maintaining the optimum strength for longevity in the blades.

The key area around the crossing (also known as a frog) and the check rails have been designed to be tied together with our laser cut steel framework. This ensures an accurate gauge in this key area and significantly decreases the risk of the points warping through years of use, reducing the opportunity for derailments. The nose is a laser cut steel construction meaning it is relatively hard wearing and also replaceable again if the component is damaged or misused.

Note; Fully Trailable point lever, painted and fitted is an optional extra

Assembling and Packing Britannia Track to Ensure it is Level

Britannia track panels are stronger than conventional profile track panels but still require a very level base for them to be laid upon. The track is designed to be sunk into ballast with appropriate foundations constructed. The track can be laid in a “temporary” fashion using wooden blocks for packing but it requires much more careful packing than our Jubilee track range as they are more flexible. Britannia track should be laid on a flat and level surface with minimal changes to gradient.Good groundwork must be used wherever the ground is uneven.

For a complete description of track laying, please refer to the ‘Operating Instructions for laying Britannia Track’ the full version can be found on MRW website.  Britannia Track, laid in hours, giving years of fun.

It is the responsibility of the operator to ensure the products have been properly installed. Liberal application of waterproof grease on the contact surfaces of the fishplates is important for the long term serviceability of this product and will also help the rails to move during expansion and contraction based on weather conditions. To this point, ensure the bolts are tightened to no more than 5Nm of torque.

Monitoring your Britannia Track

The track is designed to be hard wearing and suited to continued outdoor use with exposure to average UK weather. It is however necessary to constantly monitor the track, also look for signs of extensive rust, with particular attention required after periods of prolonged use and exposure to the elements. For more details please refer to the ‘Operating Instructions for laying Britannia Track’ the full version can be found on MRW website.
