Full size BR lamp bracket spring.
These springs were used and are still used to prevent lamps slipping too far down long lamp brackets and also to provide more stability for the lamp to be attached to coaches.
These lamp bracket springs are used in conjunction with lamp brackets to hold lamps steady even on long brackets. These were necessary as some rolling stock was fitted with lamp brackets that were longer than ideal for tail lamps. This meant that to hold the lamp steady it required a spring to hold it still. These are also often used on tail lamps generally which gives them a better and more stable fit to the lamp brackets on coaches. This prevents the lamp being able to jump off the bracket on a less well laid area of track. For this reason they can also be fitted to headboards to go onto locomotive lamp irons. This prevents the lamp jumping off the brackets on the locomotive (this is less common than for tail lamps).
These attach to lamp brackets by two rivets. The spring comes with holes predrilled and is made of spring steel 1mm thick.
