Quantity

Accommodating rolling stock of total length 2.6m, the Elizabeth Turntable is a large ready-to-lay solution with ease of installation in mind. The product is available in 7 1/4 & 5 inch gauge variants.

The turntable is designed to be laid on a flat surface such as levelled concrete or firm well ballasted ground. Unlike some traditional designs that are sunk into the ground, the turntable is extremely low profile, with a floor to railhead height of just 78mm (3 inches.) This reduces the amount of civil engineering required when compared to a conventional turntable pit and design. Our Elizabeth turntable provides the option to raise the existing line up to the turntable as a gentle gradient or have a very shallow turntable pit.

The bolt together design is partially assembled before shipment, and assembly on site is very straightforward (taking less than an hour). Once built the turntable can be secured to the concrete pad with M8 floor bolts (not provided) which are widely available though most good hardware stores.

The turntable is suitable for connecting to box steel and flat bar rail, however adapting profile rail for compatibility simply requires packing the ‘web’ so that it is also at 7 ¼ or 5 inch gauge like the railhead. Built to order on a short turnaround, the turntable comes black as standard but can be painted in a variety of colours upon request. This design has been tried and tested in its long-term installation in Scotland and has performed flawlessly despite the prevailing weather conditions.

Order Placement

This is a non-stock product, meaning it is made to order. Anticipated lead time from order is 8 weeks, subject to current laser cutting and painting lead times - PLEASE CONTACT US BEFORE PLACING AN ORDER TO CONFIRM LEAD TIME.

Suitability

Accommodating rolling stock of total length of up to 2.6m, the turntable is of highly robust design and provided it is supported effectively, it will happily take the weight of an item of rolling stock up to 500kg, evenly distributed across its length. On this basis it is well suited for even the largest locomotives or rolling stock commonly found in the hobby. The 2.98m length makes it directly compatible with our Jubilee track range as the panel is directly comparable to 2 off our standard jubilee track panels. The turntable can also  be used with a wide variety of track systems.

Monitoring & Operating Your Turntable

To ensure trouble free running, we recommend regular greasing of the centre pivot and under the locking plates at each end. A heavy duty waterproof grease is advised such as Morris K99. Care must be taken to ensure the ring segments and table ends do not become bent or misaligned from heavy handling, transportation or storage. Failure to do so can result in alignment and operation related problems.

The operator should check the turntable for damage (especially the table locking plates) before use to ensure the product is safe to carry locos and rolling stock. Special attention should be paid to the wheels, bearings and their paths to ensure they are free from debris which could cause them to drag or stall. We will not accept liability for flat spotted or damaged wheels and bearings under these circumstances.

When moving the turntable, push from the outside of the ring and ensure no people are standing within the ring at any time. This will ensure that feet and other body parts are not caught under the table and injured. The product is designed to turn hundreds of kilos of weight and therefore toe-protected safety boots should be worn at all times.

This listing is for a single Turntable, select the joiners you require from the drop down menu. It is the operator’s responsibility to ensure the day-to-day safety of the railway.
