NOS 8pt Oil Bottle Full Size Oil Bottle - Handmade

This listing is for oil bottles classified as 'New Old Stock', handmade by our talented 'Norfolk Tinman' Nick in his workshop, using some premade parts from MRW's acquisition of the John Beesley collection of Tinsmithing works. These bottles differ slightly in design to our 'Norfolk Tinman' range 8pt bottles, being made up of ex-works components or ones made to John's design. That said, they are still faithful to those used historically on locomotives and engines and look in-keeping in this environment.

 

Please be aware that as they use components manufactured between 10 and 100 years ago, they may have some light corrosion, dulling to the Tinplate surface etc. and in rare cases may differ very slightly from the product images. The bottles still come with a year's guarantee against standard failure of joints as the product is newly manufactured, so peace of mind is assured.

 

Commonly used as a pair where one bottle is larger than the others, this 8pt pairs with our 3/4pt bottle where the larger would be used for general lube and the smaller for steam oil.

 

This is a handmade oil bottle made using traditional methods by a second generation tinsmith who has years of experience crafting these intricate, practical and functional tools for use at preserved railways all over the country.

 

Nick is the Norfolk Tinman, he has spent his career working on preserved railways with a wide range of experience of all aspects of locomotive repair. Working for many years as a Fitter at the North Norfolk Railway and volunteering on the footplate as a Driver. He uses his own oil feeders and Tinsmith products on the footplate and we approached him to make a scaled down version of his traditional products. After some time hand cutting and forming the tinplate, Nick produced for us an excellent range of footplate equipment. 

 

This oil Bottle is the size of the ones BR made and are ideal for very large and full size steam engines; we would recommend using the bottles with; 

 

Any 15” loco and bigger.

Traction engines 9inch and bigger.

Full size traction engine of all types.

 

If you have a smaller engine please consider other bottles and products from the Norfolk Tinman Range as we are working to develop products better suited to smaller models.

 

Each product takes a substantial amount of time to make and each one requires years of experience and knowledge to craft each component. Every feeder and can is slightly unique and no two are ever truly the same. All of the forms are hand beaten or formed using simple tools with some processes utilising folders and tools where possible.
