Wood you believe it?

Unusually for an MRW product, the wagon features wood as a key component, a bit of a first for MRW and one we are proud to introduce. This is a softwood which has been stained to give an appropriate appearance, hence it will benefit from periodic coats of varnish or similar wood preservative. We recommend periodic checks of the wood for signs of rot or damage and replace accordingly.  You may choose to substitute the wood if the wagon for box section steel if it  is intended to be used in a “working” railway where the wood might not hold up as well. We can do this for no extra charge, just let us know at the point of ordering.

The Brakes

The brake is purely a parking brake emulating what would be found on this kind of vehicle in full size. If you are planning to use this wagon for general passenger haulage then we would recommend that you fit a safety chain and ensure the locomotive's brakes are adequate for your needs.

Air or Vacuum brakes?

This type of wagon is not designed for commercial passenger carriage. It is better suited for use in a private garden. If you're looking for a wagon for heavy haulage then consider using our Edmondson 7 1/4" Gauge Commercial Bogie rather than the minimal bogies and consider a stronger chassis.

Monitoring your product

The product is regarded as maintenance free apart from the occasional drop of oil in the axleboxes, however care must be taken to ensure the wagon is in good serviceable operation. The operator should check the product for signs of damage before use.

What is “Minimal”

Minimal railways are small railway sthat have a genuine purpose and do a real job of work, however modest. Derived from Sir Arthur Heywood's 15” 'Minimum' gauge of 1874 onwards the term “Minimal”  was coined by Chris Stockdate around the turn of the 21st century to sum up small railways that do a real job of work in or around your garden, workshop, allotment or the like.
