Description

Ready to run coaches which are suitable for club track, portable events or a large garden railway. The coaches feature an all steel construction utilising laser cut components and CNC turned wheelsets to achieve a consistent product where components are interchangeable and highly reliable.

Built to order on a short turnaround, these coaches can be painted in a variety of colours/codes with the parts professionally powder coated during assembly. Measuring 2.2M long 5 adults can happily sit on the coach with space to spare. The footboards are wide enough to hold even the largest boot without worry of feet sliding off the footrest, or coming into contact with lineside features.

The coach has been specifically designed to keep the center of gravity low to the track and the passengers sat directly above the rails. In this way, the coaches have very good resistance to derailments. Due to their reduced clearance from the railhead to the bottom of the coach body, the coach is much more likely to remain upright as opposed to similar coaches should a derailment occur.

The coaches feature a simple and effective seat design which rests on top of the steel bodywork with locating features to hold it in place. The seats can be removed in seconds to give quick access to the braking equipment. The bogies are also visible from above with viewing and adjustment holes to reach down to the wheelsets. These are perfect for inspection purposes and to re-rail the wheels if a derailment has occurred.

Stainless fastenings are used throughout the design where possible.

A reliable coach that has been developed from years of knowledge and experience gained in building locomotives and rolling stock. Built by Abbots Model Engineering in Telford, these coaches have successfully and reliably run at many clubs and private railways around the world. These are a well proven design that can hold up to regular use at both the club or home track.

Details about the bogie design and manufacture

The bogies are manufactured by Abbots Model Engineering in Telford and MRW are more than satisfied in their build quality and reliability. We have been talking to miniature railway operators who have used these bogies for many years. We believe these bogies made by Abbots are some of the most refined, affordable and simple bogies available on the market. We are pleased to be able to add them to our range.

Braking

The vacuum brake option allows you to operate a large train with appropriate braking force and as an “automatic brake” if the brake pipe fails or the coach becomes detached the brakes should apply. The carriages utilise one PNP diaphragm and vacuum reservoir per carriage with cables to connect these to each bogie. The brakes are fully compensated and have appropriate adjustment screws with fixings built into the design. This ensures that the brake blocks can be kept reliably in contact with the wheels through their lifespan.

A vacuum pump should be fitted to the riding truck with associated controls to regulate the vacuum level; this will allow you to run a vacuum-braked train ensuring safe passenger carriage. For more info on vacuum brakes, please consult our dedicated page under the Info tab.
